I met the most incredible person at the Canton First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX. Jenifer Sullivan has a store there called, “Bless My Bubblez” and she knows so much about essential oils. She incorporates her knowledge into producing products that are beneficial to your health and soul. (UPDATE: Jenifer moved and no longer goes to Canton but you can still connect with her through her Facebook page below.)
I want to share her interview and you will learn more from this essential oils expert.
What hobby are you good at?
Essential oils. I got involved with them out of necessity.
How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been making homemade remedies and medicines for about 10 years for use at home but only selling for a year.
My daughter had severe allergies to corn and anything related. Everything we had to make had to be natural without corn products. We had to really dig to find and make products that did not contain any corn.
We also developed a peppermint oil and lavender remedies for my other daughter’s migraines and sports injuries.
How did you get good at it?
Again, out of necessity. It was a struggle to find solutions but we kept at it.
What advice would you give to beginners? What shortcuts or secrets can you share?
Visit your local, not big chain, but small health food stores. The owners have years of knowledge.
Collect information from others and find out what they use essential oils for. Even when you look online, you will not find all the symptoms or what it can treat but people that use and swear by them are the best resources.
I learned you can put clove oil on a toothache.
Also, we use garlic oil for ear aches.
If you have the flu or a cold, take a garlic capsule.
My doc told me I had acid reflux and needed medication but my grandpa said you don’t need that just drink pickle juice to cure heartburn and with no side effects. It worked!
Come talk to me at my store and I will talk your ear off and tell you everything you could ever want to know about the healing powers of essential oils!
You can go online take an apothecary class or college courses to teach about essential oils.
Be careful though, there are some places that sell essential oils that offer classes but they want to sell their product more than teach you.
There are many products and many grades of oils. So if you go to a chain health food store watch out for the quality.
A “first press” is the most potent and contains the greatest healing properties.
Are you a member of any local or national organization/club related to your hobby? If yes, please share the name and benefits of belonging.
I meet with a local group of friends and family. We meet once a month and bring our problems and then look to the group to solve it.
We are looking for pet shampoo solution now to keep animals from getting allergies. Apple cider vinegar is the best but who wants their dog to smell like that? So, we are working on a solution in our group.
Do you have a website, Etsy store, Facebook page, etc. that you have created and would like to share?
Any other information that you would like to share?
We can customize products for people. They tell us their issue and I put oils together to try to solve it. That’s the best part of doing this for me.
If you want to start with the basics, invest in lavender oil, peppermint oil and get very familiar with garlic and honey. For healing, these are the best.
Honey will heal blisters and burns. Just put some on a band-aid and let it take care of the healing.
Also, table sugar is the best for cuts. Pour granules directly on the cut. It’s a natural coagulant.
It’s important to dilute oils because it can burn your skin. Dilute with another oil like jojoba, coconut, grapeseed or almond.
