I’d like to introduce you to Mary Farr, writing expert.
When I first heard of Mary, I immediately went to her website at Noah Vail Writes to learn more. She has a unique way of writing unlike so many authors. Mary communicates and connects with readers through the voice of her horse.
That’s right. Have you ever heard of anything so interesting?

What hobby are you good at?
The hobby I’m most engaged with right now is writing.
How long have you been doing it?
I started to write as a child when I built a small tree house in our backyard and equipped it with a cigar box full of pencils, paper, and horse pictures. Horses have played a significant role in my life and my writing.
How did you get good at it?
Eventually, creative writing classes and a degree in English helped me develop as a writer.
In college I started to work as a freelance writer, and eventually accepted an editorial job with a local newspaper.
That launched a long writing career, which has now produced five books, including my newest one, The Promise in Plan B, What we bring to the next chapter of our lives.
What advice would you give to beginners? What shortcuts or secrets can you share?
Writing conferences and workshops provide a great resource for new and experienced writers.
Wonderful organizations such as Poynter, a leader in journalism (poynter.org), offer fine opportunities to learn.
I also recommend attending book fairs and author support groups that can be found in local Meetups (www.meetup.com)
Are you a member of any local or national organization/club related to your hobby? If yes, please share the name and benefits of belonging.
I’m currently active in a Minneapolis group called Women of Words, though have also been active in professional organizations such as the Association for Women in Communications, and Public Relations Society of America.
I also recommend joining organizations such as The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.
These offer many classes taught by accomplished writers.
If you happen to make money from your interest, do you have a website, Etsy store, Facebook page, etc. that you have created and would like to share?
Yes, I have a website where I blog: www.desire-to-inspire.net
Any other information that you would like to share?
I realize many people enjoy writing simply for the pleasure of creating and recording events.
Others aspire to publish their work in the form of books, blogs or freelance assignments.
In this case, I feel it’s very important to write about subjects that one really knows and fully understands.
