I am always amazed at what artists create. I mean really. They put everything they have and who they are into their work.
It’s so amazing.
I would like to introduce you to Aistė who has taken her knowledge of wool and fine materials and created an incredible business at Woolen Clogs.
Meet her and learn from her. Get inspired.
Learn from Aistė of Woolen Clogs
What hobby are you good at?
Felting slippers, shoes and cat caves.
How long have you been doing it and why did you start? What got you interested?
I’ve been doing this for over 5 years now.
It was a fun hobby and really interesting to learn how to make footwear for yourself.
What are the benefits for you? What do you get out of it? Why is this your passion?
It is meditative — you work with natural materials, wool, soap and water and you can create anything you want — wet felting is a bit like working with clay.
How did you get good at it?
By working long and a lot, by failing, making mistakes at first, alter turning failed projects into new exciting ones.
What advice would you give to beginners? What shortcuts or secrets can you share?
My main advice would be not to skimp on wool quality.
Good wool that felts well is the number one thing.
You do not want to waste hours and hours trying to felt some unknown mix of strange fibers you have no idea where it came from.
Are you a member of any local or national organization/club related to your hobby? If yes, please share the name and benefits of belonging.
A “member” of a group of friends that love felting, nothing official.
If you happen to make money from your interest, do you have a website, Etsy store, Facebook page, other social media, that you would like to share?
Yes, at the moment this is my day job.
I have quit my office job and work full time at woolenclogs.com.
Welcome to my shop!
Any other information that you would like to share?
Do not be afraid to fail.
Only those who do nothing do not fail.
